Firmoo has tons of affordable frames (seriously affordable - some pairs are $8!), and you can search by the material they're made with, or the shape of the frames, or just "try on" every pair in the shop, like I did. You can upload your own photo, or use their webcam application to take one right on the site. Then you click the button next to any pair of glasses you like, and they put them on your face to see how it looks.
There are also pictures at the bottom of each page with people wearing the glasses. Real people, customers who have bought the frames. I love when sites do this, because I want to see how things look in real life, not on the set of a photo shoot.
I liked so many of their frames that I decided to wait to get some. Then the logical side of my brain clicked on: my prescription hasn't changed since I got my first pair of glasses in 11th grade. Any glasses that hadn't broken through the years, I still had, and could still wear. Besides that, I've been wearing contacts more in the past year.
Then I thought of the reason I wanted to get contacts. I don't need to wear glasses that often - I have a problem with distance, but it's only an issue when I need to read things that are far away, like the board in high school, or street signs when I'm driving in an unfamiliar place. While driving in sunny California and Arizona last summer, I had to wear my glasses, but really needed sunglasses to cut the glare. Have you ever tried to wear glasses and sunglasses? Difficult, and maybe a little dangerous. When I got back from the trip, I went to the eye doctor to get a prescription for contacts so I wouldn't have that problem again.
Another answer was prescription sunglasses! I knew they existed, of course, but always thought they were incredibly expensive. And some are. But not from Firmoo. Their sunglasses range from $40 to $68. A blog worker contacted me and asked if I wanted a free pair in exchange for a review on my blog just as I was perusing the sunglasses. Talk about good timing!
I picked my frames (which aren't available anymore - too bad, because they're gawgeous) and sent in my prescription information. That's it! There's no buying frames, then paying to get lenses inserted.
When my sunglasses arrived, they came with a hard case, a soft case, a cleaning cloth, and a repair kit with extra screws. As someone who usually buys sunglasses at gas stations, this blew me away.
I'll never be able to buy gas station sunglasses again, because Firmoo has completely spoiled me. Their frames are lightweight but so sturdy. I know they're made of plastic, but they don't feel or look like it. While I treat my other sunglasses gingerly so they don't fall apart, the Firmoo glasses are well-made, and the stems don't wiggle around like my others do, even if I'm less gentle with them.
I'm obsessed with the delicate detail work on the stems:
The prescription is on the whole lens, and is the same strength as any glasses lenses I've had. I wasn't sure how the tint would affect the vision, but there's no problem at all.
Like I said, I'm in love with the detailing on the sides.
If you want a pair of glasses from Firmoo, here's a chance to get you some! The company offers a FIRST PAIR FREE program! All you have to do is pay shipping.
The company offers this because they're so confident in the quality of their products, they know customers will order from them again even after that first free pair. I have to agree with them - I'm already "trying on" more pairs to see what I should buy next!
