Talk with the Animals

Yesterday was an incredibly important day. Do you know why?

Squirrel Appreciation Day.

Seriously. It was. So in celebration, I present you one of my many dear squirrel friends:

A (human) friend even sent along a gift for them in a Christmas package.

I guess it's a bit mean to allow the squirrel's major domestic predator to hijack the post, but this cat is relatively new to my 'hood and I wanted to make him feel welcome. Saturday morning, I was watching Curb Your Enthusiasm when I saw a cat go by. Maybe I was channeling Larry David, or maybe I always yell at animals - who knows! It was initially distracted by the TV before realizing the sound was coming from somewhere else.

If the embedded video isn't working, please watch here!

Before you feel the need to ask: a) No, I don't know why my "meows" sound like an ambulance siren; b) No, I am not embarrassed by how I "talk" to animals. It works, ok? We're friends.

  1. Superb photos of the squirrel. I have never noticed the details of their back feet before.

    1. Thank you! I have some photos of a baby squirrel (http://www.allisonwrites.com/2012/09/squirrelly.html) and you can see the feet a bit better.

  2. Can't wait to read this where I can see the video (blocked here at work). Not only do I talk to Allie and the cats, I answer myself in "their" voice.

    1. I'm looking forward to your video reaction. I don't usually answer as them out loud, but in my mind we have entire conversations. Ex: "Hey skirrly!" (looks at me, alarmed) "Whatcha doin?" (nibbles an acorn) "Is that a good nut?" (he runs off) "Oh, bye then!"
